I'm giving my first Dharma Talk of the year this Sunday at the Rime Center.
I'm leading the Sunday Service with all the bells and guided meditations and chants. And then I'm giving the Dharma Talk. I'm going to talk about what it means to have a meaningful life. What does a meaningful life look like?
10:30am to Noon. @ St Mark's Hope and Peace. (come in through the side door) 3800 Troost. Kansas City, MO.

I think a meaningful life is about growing as a person, striving to become someone that wants to spread love and kindness in the world. Spreading positivity brings a lot to our lives and we don't find a lot of meaning when we're just focused on taking and consuming all the time. The truth is that when we're living that way we can never be satisfied.
In “The Heroic Heart,” the Buddhist Nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo describes human life in a way that I think is really powerful. She says:
“Ultimately there is light and love and intelligence in the universe. And we are it. It is not just something out there; we carry it within us. This is what we are trying to reconnect with, our original light and love and intelligence, which is who we really are. It is important not to get too distracted by extraneous things but to really remember why we are here on this planet and to realize why having this human body is so precious that we do not waste our life again.”
I love teaching like that and they really inspire me. I hope they inspire you too.

I'm doing double duty this Sunday!
Following the Sunday Service I'm heading down the street to the Rime Center to co-lead Sutra Study Sunday class at 12:30pm along with my friend Lama Matthew. We do this the first Sunday of every month. This is like a Bible study but for Buddhist teachings. This Sunday we're reading a text called Declaring What is Supreme. If you're interested in Buddhism but discussion groups seem more like what you're into than a spiritual service, then this could be the right fit for you.
2939 Wayne Avenue. Kansas City, MO. 12:30pm-1:30pm
